Commercial Pilot License Cost Questions

Most people searching for commercial pilot costs want a number they can plan around. Below is how the commercial stage works out at FlyTech, with the prerequisites, timeline, and payment options that go with it.

Tell us where your logbook stands and we will help you plan the hours, the timeline, and how you want to pay.

If you already hold your Private Pilot Certificate and Instrument Rating, plan on about $23,500 for the commercial stage at FlyTech. Estimates move with the hours you fly, so your own total depends on your logbook and how quickly the skills come. Our commercial pilot program page shows the same breakdown.
It covers 50 hours of remaining pilot-in-command time, 30 dual hours in our Sling, 30 hours of instruction, 27.5 hours in the Redbird simulator with instruction, 14 hours of pre- and post-flight instruction, 30 hours of ground school, and your checkride and written test. Posted rates are $185 an hour for the aircraft, $60 an hour for instruction, and $50 an hour for the simulator. The checkride and written test come to $1,200.

You need a Private Pilot Certificate, an Instrument Rating, 250 total flight hours, a minimum age of 18, and a valid FAA medical certificate. Pilots who fly for pay need a second-class medical, so talk with an Aviation Medical Examiner before you start. If one of these is missing, contact us and we will look at your logbook with you and map the shortest route to being ready.
The FAA requires 250 total flight hours for a commercial pilot certificate, and the hours you logged during your Private and Instrument training count toward that total. Specific cross-country, night, and instrument time also have to be met. Our guide to what counts toward the 250 hours goes through each category. We review your logbook with you so the remaining hours are planned before your first commercial lesson.
The biggest levers are flying on a steady schedule, arriving prepared, and planning your remaining hours before you begin. Long gaps between lessons mean reviewing what you already learned, and review time is billed like new material. How to lower the cost of commercial pilot training covers each one. Your instructor can help you set a schedule that fits your week.
Most students finish the commercial stage in about 2 to 3 months. Weather, your schedule, and how quickly you progress all move that number, and flying several times a week usually finishes sooner than flying once every few weeks. Read how long commercial pilot training takes for what a typical stretch looks like, then tell us how much time you have and we will plan around it.
No. At FlyTech you pay as you go, covering the aircraft time, simulator time, and instruction for each lesson as you fly it. That keeps your money tied to training you have completed. Talk through the numbers with our team before you schedule your first lesson.
Yes. Financing through Stratus Financial can spread the cost out over time, and our financing page explains how it works. Approval depends on the lender, so it helps to apply early. Our team can walk you through the steps if you are weighing financing against paying as you go.
Your goal decides whether the numbers make sense. A commercial certificate lets you fly for pay, which opens charter, corporate, instructing, and other professional flying. The post on whether a commercial pilot license is worth the cost shows how to weigh the cost against your plans. An instructor at FlyTech can talk it through with you.
